- 1 lb. green beans, trimmed
- 6 tbsp. butter, divided
- 1 onion, sliced into half moons
- 8 oz. sliced mushrooms
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 c. whole milk
- 1 1/2 c. French’s fried onions
Set the oven to 350 degrees. Green beans should be cooked for about 6 minutes in a big pot of boiling water to turn them bright green before adding them to an ice bath. Green beans should be swiftly transferred with tongs or a slotted spoon to an ice bath to chill before being drained and placed in a big bowl.
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a sizable ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook it for about 5 minutes, stirring regularly, until it is soft. Add the mushrooms and salt & pepper to taste. About 5 more minutes of cooking, stirring often will result in golden mushrooms.
